WEBCarfax is a helpful tool, but it is not the be-all end-all of car history. Heck, I've seen reports where a guy bought a car with a clean report, only to be notified later that the report they bought had been updated with an accident. Carfax has to rely on reporting from insurance, police, and state DMVs for information.

WEBAug 1, 2020 · Carfax is only reliable as its adoption rate that the car resides in, like background checks there are multiple companies with independent databases. If you are in a large city, chances are that they most likely will report to carfax, but more rural or more unscrupulous shops will not report to carfax. Reply. Share.

WEBJan 11, 2022 · I recently receive the free carfax report from dealer and it shocked me that it shows my car have two accident and the worst one happened in 2016 which is a moderate damage and cause airbag deployed. After that , I find the auto check report carmax gave to me back in 2019 and it said my car is no accident, no damage and no airbag deployed.

WEBI had success fixing my carfax report. There was a mileage inconsistency reported on the carfax which was throwing up red flags when trying to sell. I failed to read it thoroughly before purchase. Well when you look closer you can see two visits with one shop in 2014 where the mileage was higher for the first visit.
