WEBMost american 1/2 tons are 6400lbs +/-. Most 3/4 tons are in the 8000lb range. Most one tons are in the 9000-1000 lb range. Most 1/2 tons weigh 4400lbs. Most 3/4 and 1 tons weigh around 6,000 lbs. Rough payload capacity is the difference between the empty weight and the Gross Vehicle Weight Rating.

WEBThe big trucks are nice but I just don't need all the flab, I don't need hemi, a bed that is 4 1/2 feet off the ground or all the tough man BS. All the big trucks up here in Canada are getting groceries, driving oh so daintily over the pot holes and maybe hauling a "Manly" payload once a year. WASTE of money and space.

The 347, 370.1, 326, 400 et al, and even 455 can be traced back to the old Pontiac "medium block" (Pontiac never did the big-block/small-block thing like Chevy, Mopar, Olds, or Buick) 287 from 1955.

WEBMay 2001. Trucks are work vehicles, not style statements. Other than amenities inside the cab, a current 2001-model pickup truck is not functionally much different than a 1950-model truck. Trucks are kept running longer for the simple reason that a shiny new truck isn't much different than an old beat up truck.
