Get ready to walk in one of the largest events to help put an end to Alzheimer's. The Alzheimer's Association is calling on participants of all ages and abilities to join the fight against the disease on October 5th at the National World War I Museum & Memorial.

Leptin, a hormone that helps with weight control, also plays a role in normal cognition. Leptin resistance occurs when the hormone is secreted by fat cells but unavailable for use by the body. Leptin resistance causes further weight gain in obesity as well as cognitive changes in the brain.

More than $200,000 has been raised by the Alzheimer’s Association at the “Walk to End Alzheimer’s” event held in Providence on Sunday morning. 12 News Anchor Mike Montecalvo was the emcee at the event,

Saturday’s Alzheimer’s Walk in downtown Sioux Falls raised more than $300,000. The annual event raises money to provide support and resources for families dealing with disease. Funds raised also go to research in hopes of one day finding a cure.
