The Information published a story that Apple had developed new “electrically induced adhesive debonding” technology to secure the battery in the latest iPhone, replacing adhesive strips. Apple has now confirmed that is the case, according to Engadget.

Beary acknowledges Apple did announce some advancements. “Like I get it: There’s more memory bandwidth; Apple AI features will fun 15% faster in iPhone 16 Pro, which means that the regular iPhone 16 … the Apple intelligent features should run about the same as the Pro Max.”

Apple claims that the new technology will make it faster and safer for iPhone owners and repair specialists to swap out the battery. It works by “running a low voltage electrical current through the new ionic liquid battery adhesive,” which releases the power pack from its enclosure.

Apple points out that its latest smartphones are "built for Apple Intelligence." To make that happen, the company developed a new smartphone chip -- the A18. The iPhone 16 and the iPhone 16 Plus will be powered by the A18 chip, while the Pro and Pro Max versions will have the A18 Pro chip inside them.
