Ireland's finance minister said Wednesday $14.4 billion in Apple tax payments will be used for key infrastructure investments to support economic development, including housing, transport, electric, and water systems.

Ireland's government on Tuesday outlined how it intends to deploy more than $14 billion in back taxes from Apple.

Now that the EU's ruling on Apple's back taxes in Ireland is final, the country's government says the $14 billion could be "transformational."

Ireland plans to invest the 14 billion euros ($15.5 billion) that Apple has been ordered to pay in back taxes into housing, energy, water and transport infrastructure, Finance Minister Jack Chambers told parliament on Tuesday.
