A new mini-moon the size of a city bus will begin circling our planet and hanging out in our skies until Thanksgiving week. An asteroid named 2024 PT5 will enter Earth's orbit, get caught there from Sept.

Technically a “temporarily captured object,” 2024 PT5 is a near-Earth asteroid and Earth’s newest mini-moon. This 11-meter diameter near-Earth asteroid — about the same as a London bus — is expected to stay in orbit for a couple of months before resuming its own journey through the solar system on Nov. 25.

Earth will capture a miniature, "second moon" this week, according to NASA scientists. The new moon is actually a tiny asteroid dubbed 2024 PT5. It will start orbiting the planet in a horseshoe path and stick around for a little less than two months before escaping Earth's gravitational pull and going back to its regular orbit around the sun.
